Following original posting of this image a query arose from Mike Hopper regarding: “Norminton’s sweet shop down Station Road”. Barbara McBurney told us: “Mr Harold Norminton was Headmaster at Loftus County Modern School, but there was a sweet shop down Station Road called Norminton’s years ago, I think it is possible that Mr Norminton’s wife used to run it, I think the shop was also owned at one time by a lady called Muriel Cox.”

The Archive thought the location was at Rosecroft school, as we are sure that is Mr Gratton in the background and Mr Tough is second right, with Mrs Tough with the bouquet on her lap.

In the background is Marion Calvert Food Technology (Domestic Science as it used to be called) and Matthew Waite a pupil. Joanne Ewens advises: “Ashok was in school all day that day but he did the awards on the evening; “I had my picture taken with Ashok that day; I received the first ever award for Food Technology. It was called the Stonehouse Bakery Award. Graeme Lynas received an award for CDT for making a crab pot.”
