Do You Remember Kay?

A young lady often seen in Loftus who I think lived in Coronation Road, when was this wedding do you know?

Mr and Mrs Neil Garbutt

The wedding photograph of Neil and Margaret Garbutt, married 16th January 1965. The newspaper commentary read: “Happy newly weds, Mr. Neil Garbutt of Brotton, and his bride, Miss Margaret Hicks, of Loftus, after the ceremony at St. Leonard’s Church, Loftus, on Saturday.” Michael Garbutt commented: “This is my Mam and Dad, who recently celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. They ran the Youth Club for many years, both at the old location at the Odd Fellows Hall, and during its move to its present location at Duncan Place.
I have lots of memories of the old hall, especially playing football in the big room above and loved searching around all the rooms. In one I found the newspaper informing everyone about the breakout of World War II! Still have it somewhere. And who remembers the old black Ambulance that we used to drive around in?”

Fancy Dress or Pantomime?

Loftus Youth Club members dressed for an event in the 1950/60s? Even the location is unknown. We are unsure of the reasons and welcome assistance.

East Loftus Children at Play

Again on the playing field at East Loftus, believed to be in the 1930s. Eric Trembath tells us: ”The two lads sat on the right of the see-saw the first is ?? Morrison the second right is my dad Maurice Trembath.” Jan Wilson adds: “The girl seated second left looks like Joyce Stamford.”

Can anybody else help with names or a date.

Another Trophy

An obviously happy group seeing the presentation of another trophy. But we welcome assistance with names, date and the reasons for the award?

Dress Code – Fancy Dress

A wonderful array of costumes, but we need help with names, date and the occasion. Janis Bonner has advised: “4th in, on the back row, is my mother Margaret Tilley ( nee Pearson) dressed as a gypsy girl. She will have been about 15/16 years old which dates the photograph circa 1946/47. She has a copy of this somewhere. I’ll ask her if she remembers the names of the others.” Janis Bonner can now assist again: “My Mother Margaret recognised some of her fellow fancy dressers!

Back row: Dennis Codling, Margery Lofthouse, Eileen May, Margaret Pearson, Lorna Chipchase ,Peggy Garner, Mr. Tart (Youth Leader)
Middle Row: George Cox, Abel Roberts, Tommy Andrews, ??, ??, ??, ??, Naughty Nighties on the end are Greta Baldwin and Hilary Coverdale.
