Derek Armstrong and Ann Wale tied the knot in Loftus, quite a few years ago I think. Can you give us a date? Image courtesy of Loftus Youth Club. Francis Redman and Ann Ramsay were married in St. Joseph’s church in Loftus. Image courtesy of Loftus Youth Club. Pupils of Moorsholm school celebrating May Day in the late 1950s. Ann Jackson tells us: ”Marian Wardell was May Queen so it will have been about 1959 I think”. Can anybody assist with additional names? Image and some names courtesy of Irene Greensmith, also many thanks to Ann Jackson for the dating and additional names. How many people have said that over the years? We know it is the wedding of Terry Main to Barbara Cuthbert, we asked can you help us with the date? Tony tells us: ”Terry and Barbara were married on November 26th, 1966.” Image courtesy of Loftus Youth Club and many thanks to Tony for the update. This image shows a group of unknown relatives (of the Rooks family), harvesting peas at the John Street allotment. Owen also advises: ” A point of interest is that you can just see North Skelton school top right in the background if you look hard!” It must have been a cooler day for the harvest as our ladies are wearing coats. Grandma Rooks (grandmother of Owen Rooks) who died in in 1930; is pictured with a cousin called Marjorie Gott at the Rook’s allotment in John Street, New Skelton. Mrs Bell enjoying a cup of tea at the allotment with her mother Mrs Oyston. Friends of the Rooks their allotment was beside the cemetery on Stanghow Lane, New Skelton. Mrs Rooks and Mrs Richardson enjoying another lovely sunny day at the John Street allotments. The 1950s seemed to have been blessed with some lovely summers. Sandra Harnett tells the Archive: “I have seen this photograph before but didn’t know who the lady on the left was, my grandmother Mrs Richardson is on the right. I did know Mrs Rook but the memory is fading!! I only saw my grandma in the holidays as we lived in London.”
Mr and Mrs Richardson enjoying their John Street allotment in the 1950s. The end of John Street can be seen to the left of the image. Their allotment was beside that of the Rooks family and they were both good neighbours and friends. Why are our memories younger days of more sunny weather? Sandra Harnett tells us: “My Grandma and Granddad – Happy Days!”
Our cutting is missing the vital words. We know this is the team; coming second in whatever competition. They are: C. Smelt, M. Greenwood, E. Laverick and R. Page. Can anybody assist? Image courtesy of Loftus Youth Club. |
