Guide Camp?

I think this maybe at the guide camp but not sure. Some of the people are; back row: Ann Dodsworth, Fred Shaw, Mrs Kathy Collins (Pat Collins mum), Fred Shaw (Ann Shaw’s dad), ??, Mrs Gladys Shaw .

Front row: Ann Shaw, ??, Vera Shaw, Anne Wilson, Marilyn Eddon.

Norman Patton tell us: ”This looks like the ‘Brickyard Gang’ at a Guides camp?” Can anybody name the remaining people, please.

The Entertainer

Wharton Arms Skelton. The entertainer in the middle of the young ladies looks familiar. What was the event, and assistance needed for names and year please. Ann Robinson tell us: ”I think the man in the middle is Donald Peers a singer from the 1950s. I used to play darts in Skippers in the 1960s. My mam was a good friend of Rhoda”.

Well Dressed

We have no information on these well dressed gentlemen or the location and occasion. And so we ask for help with identification. Photograph taken possibly 1920s.

Welcome to France

Boulogne Harbour, one of the first ports of call for soldiers arriving in France, this postcard showing civilians, was probably taken before the start of the Great War. For many soldiers this would have been no leisurly disembarkation and for many there would be no return trip.

Pint Please

Wharton Arms Skelton; the landlady pulls a pint, the old fashioned way. The Archive asked: “Do we have a name for the lady?” Owen Rooks came to the rescue with: “It’s Rhoda Skipper, probably dispensing the delectable brews which once emanated from J. Nimmo & Sons, Castle Eden Brewery.”

Does This Hurt?

Possibly the same First Aid competition. Yet again we are lost for names, place and occassion. Can you assist. George Brown tells us: ”Is far right Des Want?”

Wilton ICI Flare Stacks

Even in 1973 the Wilton flare stacks caused problems. Andrew Pryce comments: “I remember the flares vividly, we lived in Redcar on the old Lakes Estate and Iwas working in Guisborough at Blackett Hutttons at the time as a machinist. Used to drive past and see the flares.” Keith Willshaw assists with: “It was much more of a problem back then. I started as an apprentice at ICI Wilton in 1968 and was around until Olefines VI had been built in the mid 70’s. That amount of smoke would get you into trouble today as the regulations require that in normal operation no visible smoke should be produced. If nothing else it means unburned hydrocarbons are being emitted which could be toxic, carcinogenic or both.

Whitby Fishing Boats 1973

Cheques

A presentation of cheques, but we have no information as to event, location or what the cheques are for? We can identify at the far right Arthur Hawkins (Invoice Manager) and Eddie Yeoman receiving a cheque; far left Ron Mildon. Ron Milner (Security) centre with cheque? The Archive asked: “Can any one help with further information.” Colin Verrill suggested: “My guess, it was something to do with the St John Ambulance Brigade as Albert Atkinson and Eddie Yeoman and maybe Arthur Young were all involved with the Saint Johns Ambulance Brigade.” Colin also advised: “Far left is Ron Mildon; far right is Albert Atkinson. Can’t see Arthur Hawkins on the picture and he was my boss in the Invoice Department in 1973/74.” Bob Doe assisted with: “Far right Arthur Hawkins, Invoice Manager and Ron Milner.” Whilst Brian Young assisted with: “Far left . Ron Milner worked on security. Second left Arthur Young (Union Rep.), third Bob King (Works Manager).”

Presentation group: Ron Mildon, Arthur Young (Union Rep.), Bob King, ??, Ron Milner (Security), Eddie Yeoman, ??, Arthur Hawkins (Invoice Manager). If our viewers can assist in ensuring the right names in the right place; please get in contact.
