Believed to be launching owing to the absence of seagulls, often indicating a successful voyage; unless you know better? Shaun Clarkson has advised us that the boat was built by Billy Clarkson. Peter Appleton tells us: “The boat was named after Melinda Muriel Thomas, who would have been Stephen’s grandmother I think. She married one of my great-uncles, Robert Evans, at Brotton in 1927.”
