A lovely view of a paddle-steamer in Whitby harbour, the image is from – “Photographic View Album of Whitby” – photographed and printed by Valentine & Sons Ltd., Dundee. There are other images (usually from hand-tinted postcards) of paddle-steamers in the harbour; at one time Whitby was a regular calling point for short cruises by paddle-steamers on the north-east coast.

This image is definitely by Frank Meadow Sutcliffe, he was possibly commissioned to take this and many others in the book – “Photographic View Album of Whitby” – photographed and printed by Valentine & Sons Ltd., Dundee.

Although this has a look of a Frank Meadows Sutcliffe image; it is taken from – ”Photographic View Album of Whitby” – photographed and printed by Valentine & Sons Ltd., Dundee. Dating from pre-1911, as the now familiar pier extensions were added in 1912.
