This loco was actually named KILTON, it was purchased from Steel,Peech and Tozer of Rotherham their number 26, and placed into traffic in 1961. Withdrawn from service in 1963 when the Sentinel diesels arrived, its boiler was then reused for heating the new diesel loco shed and the chassis used as an ingot carrier for several years.

Great photo. I really like seeing the old Skinningrove works, especially in colour. I worked there for the last 10+ years. The building behind this loco is still there today, and has recently been repurposed as a fine finishing plant. Thank you for sharing. Do you have any more early colour images from “the Grove”
